About Helichrysum:
Of all the essential oils, this has got to be my personal favorite. Not for its scent however, (although a flower, it is a bit medicinal smelling) but because of its effectiveness. It is the best essential oil for inflammation, bruising, pain, scars, rosacea, sprains, torn muscles/ ligaments/tendons, and has even been reported to heal broken bones in half the time.
This is Helichrysum Italicum also known as Everlasting, Immortelle and also Italian Straw Flower. Historically, it was used for in Europe for asthma, headaches and arthritis. Today it is considered to be THE EO for bruising and inflammation. It is also effective for bronchitis, colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also good for allergic conditions, especially those involving respiratory (sneezing) and itchy skin rashes (including eczema).
In Chinese Medicine it is related to the element wood and is said to move stagnant Qi. It regulates stagnant blood and has the ability to break through the most "stuck" and negative emotions. Good for frustration, resentment and forgiveness.
It is anti-allergenic, anti-catarrhal, anti-coagulant, anti-haematomic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, calmative, cholagogic, cicatrisant, expectorant, hepatic stimulant. It is non-toxic and non - irritating.
Some suggestions for use:
Use a few drops straight or mix with a bit of Emu oil (also an anti-inflammatory) and apply to bruising
Mix with emu oil - to create a soothing anti-inflammatory blend for injuries (muscles, ligaments & tendons)
Add a few drops to emu oil for an effective massage blend for aching muscles or Fibromyalgia.
Add to emu oil to prevent scaring of "fresh" surgical incisions. If done early enough and often enough, scars will disappear
Add to emu oil to speed the healing of burns (As with all essential oils, avoid contact with the eyes).
Include it in MSM Creams - to increase the effectiveness of your pain relief cream for muscles aches and pains and for arthritic pain.
Add to creams and lotions to soothe rashes and itching and other "heat related aliments" such as rosacea and eczema.
