1 About Clays 2

We carry the world's finest cosmetic clays. They have a very fine texture and are packed with minerals to feed the skin, while drawing toxins and refining the pores for beautiful, fresh looking skin. Clays make a welcomed addition to soaps. Not only for color but the refined lather, and texture and skin pleasing feel.

The wonderful qualities of clay have been used to promote health in animals and humans in many cultures since before recorded history. Animals are instinctively drawn to clay for its healing qualities. Clay baths have been scientifically proven to pull toxic metals from the skin and body, and the best spas in the world feature full body baths of clay.

Clays are natural silicates of the earth and are perfect as a base for a facial mask. They work to extract pollutants and toxins from the skin, leaving it fresh and clean. In addition, the minerals feed the skin and help to restore a natural balance. By making gentle circles before washing off the mask, you can effectively give yourself a micro-derm abrasion treatment, removing the dullness which is created by the surface layer of dead skin. Because clays are round spears, they will not scratch or damage the skin.

To make your own facial mask

MEASURE - approx 1 tsp. of clay into a small glass, wood or pottery bowl

ADD - an equal amount of liquid of your choice (see liquid info below)

MIX - and allow the clay to stand for a few minutes

APPLY - thinly and evenly (approx 1/8 inch thick) to the face and neck

ALLOW TO DRY - approx 15 to 20 minutes, less time for delicate skin

REMOVE - by adding warm water and making a few gentle circles to loosen and exfoliate dead skin

RINSE - thoroughly with warm water

The liquid portion may be water, milk, aloe vera juice, apple cider vinegar, lavender or rose hydrosol etc. You can also add a few drops of essential oil if desired. Lavender, lemon, orange etc. will work wonderfully. For delicate skin, a 5 minutes mask may be long enough. If the clay is wet, it is still working. The pulling and tightening sensation is normal and what you want to happen. There may be a slight redness due to increased circulation, but this is normal and will disappear. However, if you get a rash, discontinue the mask.

FINALLY - apply your favourite serum or moisturizer.

A weekly application is recommended. Making your own spa treatments is fun and having them IS a treat. Why not try them ALL and see which one your skin loves the most?
